The OHA Instructional Leadership Team is thrilled to launch our very first OHA 20 Book Challenge! From January through June, we’re challenging every student to read 20 good-fit Chapter Books by the end of the year - both at school and at home!
A "good fit” Chapter Book looks different for every student! For more beginning readers, this might mean that 5 picture books = 1 chapter book. For others, this might mean that 2 graphic novels = 1 chapter book. What if you are ready for a big challenge? Maybe 1 Harry Potter book could count for 2 or even 3 Chapter Books. Teachers will help students determine their best-fitting books and how many Chapter Books will be earned towards the 20 Book Challenge.
Our goal is simple: to spark a love of reading, celebrate progress, and make reading fun for everyone! Thanks to the incredible support of our PTO, students will have the chance to earn special rewards as they reach their reading milestones.
Reading Rewards:
5 Books: OHA Reads Water Bottle Sticker
10 Books: OHA Zephyr Reader Rubber Bracelet
15 Books: Snack (Takis, candy, etc.)
20 Books: OHA T-shirt
How It Works:
Students read independently or with a partner during Independent Daily Reading (IDR) at school AND for 20 minutes at home each night as part of their homework
After finishing each book, students fill out a Student Accountability Form and update their Book Tracking Sheet with their teacher. Tracking sheets will stay in book pouches.
Each month, we’ll celebrate students who meet their reading goals and award prizes!
We can’t wait to see our OHA readers dive into new adventures, stories, and discoveries. Let’s get reading, OHA—20 books, here we come!
